Howard prepares its students for an optimistic view of the future, showing them the opportunities to restructure and reshape society.
   We also prepare them to become sensitive to the needs around them and aware of their responsibility in society, for a key to advancing our society lies in advancing African Americans and other underserved populations.
   It's a long and challenging path which must involve concerted, sustained attention to developing partnerships and wider communication—between men and women; across boundaries of cultural, racial and socioeconomic differences; across disciplines and institutions; and among the various sectors of our society.
