Howard’s Target H.O.P.E. Create Human Ribbon
Approximately 33 million people are living with HIV/AIDS worldwide and most are unaware that they are infected. Washington, D.C. has the highest HIV/AIDS rate among U.S. cities, 1 in 20. To increase awareness, the Howard University Chapter of Target H.O.P.E. (Healing, Opportunity, Pride, and Empowerment) will form a human ribbon to commemorate World AIDS Day dubbed, “Join the Chain, Make a Change.” Read More >>
College of Medicine, a National Leader in Training Women Surgeons, Celebrates 140th Anniversary

Dr. Karyn L. Butler still remembers vividly the responses she received at a number of surgery training programs when she applied there some 20 years ago.

“At some of the interviews, they would ask me something like, “How do you know you’re strong enough to do this, to become a surgeon,’” recalled Butler, now director of surgical critical care and associate director of surgery at Hartford Hospital. “Surgery was seen as the men’s club back them.”
