University receives $5 million NASA grant

WASHINGTON (September 29, 2008) — Howard University was selected as one of seven minority institutions to receive NASA's Minority University Research and Education Program grant.


The Howard University Beltsville Campus will benefit from this grant, which amounts to $1 million per year for five years for each participating institution.

Acclaimed Artist Starmanda Bullock: Four Decades of Excellence

WASHINGTON (September 22, 2008) - This fall, the Howard University Gallery of Art will premiere an unparalleled exhibition, The Life and Work of Starmanda Bullock at Howard University, from September 28 through January 2009 in Childers Hall.


The 40-year retrospective includes more than 80 pieces of Bullock’s work from 1961 to 2008, including original signage and the flag that she designed for the University.

The exhibit is acomprehensive and compelling representation of her career juxtaposed with major social events in the nation’s history.

President Sidney Ribeau Unveils Plans for Howard

Cramton Auditorium was filled to capacity as students, faculty and staff gathered to hear Howard University 16th President Sidney A. Ribeau deliver the keynote address during the 141st opening convocation on Friday, Sept. 26.

President Ribeau presided over his first convocation since taking the helm on August 1 and stressed the importance of the University maintaining its place as a Research Institution.

“I would like to see Howard University as one of the top 50 Universities in the United States and unique in its research position among all Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs),” said Ribeau.

 

Convocation is the official beginning of the academic year and serves as a welcoming ceremony for first-year students.
