IRA ALDRIDGE ADOPT-A-SEAT CAMPAIGN
By Since 1950, Ira Aldridge Theater has not only been a laboratory for Howard’s budding thespians, but has carried a torch, heralding the stories and cultures of African peoples through out the Diaspora. The Department of Theatre Arts has utilized this theater to acknowledge and celebrate the glory as well as the challenges of being of African decent for 54 years. Some of the world’s most dynamic performers and productions have graced the Ira boards. The productions have ranged from the classics of Sophocles and Shakespeare to the contemporary voices of August Wilson and George C. Wolfe. Ira Aldridge Theater is a living, breathing history. Its future is entangled with the heart of African-American culture. Come share in the history and future of the Ira Aldridge Theater and Howard University’s Department of Theatre Arts. As many of you already know, after several years, Ira Aldridge Theater has been renovated (visit http://www.howard.edu/collegefinearts/theatre/ for pictures) to include new seats, new carpet, as well as freshly painted walls. Thus, we find that it is very important that we institute the “Adopt-A-Seat” campaign to help defray costs that the Department of Theatre Arts accrues over the academic year. Your tax-deductible donation will support departmental scholarships, productions, the upkeep and maintenance of Ira Aldridge Theater, and a name plate memorializing you on the seat. There are five levels of seats that may be adopted, and you will receive benefits at each level.
