THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

The Department of Communication and Culture is committed to educating and preparing professionals to work effectively in positions of leadership and responsibility at all levels of national and global organizations. The department recruits those students who are vitally interested in enhancing their academic acumen, committed to social justice and desire to provide services to those diverse communities who are in need of ethical professionals devoted to service. To that end, the department offers undergraduate degrees with majors in Legal Communication and Speech and Applied Communications.

The curriculum for both degree programs offer studies in interpersonal, intercultural and organizational communication theory and practice. Students learn to identify and understand the art and science of communication while mastering analytical and critical thinking skills. All programs in the John H. Johnson School of Communications are accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.

The Department of Communication and Culture develops and perfects the oratorical abilities of our students through their participation in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Forensics Society. This nationally ranked and award winning program affords students the opportunity to hone their speaking skills in the areas of informative, persuasive, impromptu and extemporaneous speaking, as well as poetry, prose and dramatic interpretation.

The diverse, recognized faculty of the Department of Communication and Culture is dedicated to the maintenance of the tradition of academic excellence. Through their superior teaching, an active research agenda, professional contributions and community service, students are prepared and poised for success in the market place.
