AUDIO PRODUCTION

No matter how competitive, challenging or demanding the audio industry becomes, Audio Production majors consistently emerge as innovative career leaders. Students in this sequence are exposed to a wide range of "sound" career options and production techniques; including radio production and promotion, sound for television and film, and multi-track recording/mixing.

Audio production classes include: Radio Production, Advanced Radio Production, Broadcast Performance (Announcing), Audio for Visual Media, WHBC/WHUR Lab, and Radio Practicum (Internship). In addition, students have access to the latest digital equipment and new audio technologies.

Students work as managers and staff members of the Department of Radio, Television and Film's, student operated station, WHBC-AM. Students also operate the Department's Internet-only, all-talk radio station, glasshouseradio.com.

Audio production students serve as interns for some of the nation's top media companies, including:

  • Washington, DC based radio stations - WKYS-FM, WPFW-FM, or Howard University's professional station, WHUR-FM
  • National and international networks/services - National Public Radio, Voice of America or XM Satellite Radio
  • Record studios/Record Companies - Atlantic Records or Horizon Studios

Our faculty consists of world-renowned educators and scholars who prepare students to meet the challenges of today's fast-paced and rapidly changing audio industry.

Thus, Audio Production graduates land positions and competitive salaries as a result of their training. Our graduates include:

  • Cheryl Brown Marks, Director of Marketing, TVT Records
