Build Better Facilities

The New School of Education

"Given the role of technology in modern-day business and education, the need for teachers to be on the cutting edge of using technology to foster teaching and learning is obvious. Teachers must not only be comfortable with the use of technology, but also be models for effectively infusing technology into their curricula and teaching technology to their students. Thus, it is imperative that faculty and students of the School of Education have access to and training for the latest technological advances."

According to Dr. Vinetta Jones, dean of the School of Education, the lack of the desired amount of current technology in the School of Education is one of the strong arguments for a new facility. "The entire building was retrofitted with cabling for computers and technology that is now obsolete," she points out. In addition, the School is in need of new office and classroom space to adequately accommodate its rapidly developing faculty, student body and research needs.

Plans for a new facility to house the School of Education have been included in the Strategic Framework for Action II. "The President has told us that this new building will be a top priority for the University as a whole," Dr. Jones says. The current facility, which was originally intended to be used temporarily, has housed the School of Education for 25 years.
