John H. Johnson School of Communications Long awaited by students, faculty and staff alike, the new John H. Johnson School of Communications, scheduled for groundbreaking in 2003, will provide a state-of-the-art facility for the School that is worthy of its stature and vision. Upon completion of the new facility, operations for the John H. Johnson School of Communications would move from the C.B. Powell Building, where it has been housed since 1982. According to Dr. Jannette L. Dates, dean of the School , the new complex will provide "a safe, healthy working environment for Howard faculty, staff and students and ensure the safety and proper operation of highly-sensitive computers and other technical equipment." The project requires a minimum of $30 million that will be used to create new laboratories; editing and dubbing suites; classrooms; faculty and student lounges; an auditorium and WHUT, Howard University Television; and faculty and administrative offices. Says Dr. Dates, "Everyone is elated that we are finally going to build a much-needed replacement facility for the School of Communications." |
