Muhammad Salaam, Class of 2005
Major: Biology
Hometown: Decatur, GA

A Company of Friends scholar, Muhammad Salaam originally considered not attending Howard University for financial reasons. "But after looking at the long-term benefits of attending Howard, I changed my mind."

Muhammad's decision to attend Howard, despite financial constraints, has paid off in more ways than one. After his freshman year, he received the Company of Friends Scholarship, which has helped to pay for books for his classes. He has also gotten closer to his goal of becoming a physician. "I believe that my experience at Howard University will have a positive impact on my future," he says. "The professors from whom I have learned and the students and friends I have met have influenced me to be the best in all goals I hope to attain throughout my life."

Muhammad is majoring in biology at Howard and plans to attend medical school. Upon graduation, he hopes to work in oncology and aid in the treatment of cancer among African Americans. He credits Howard's "rich and nourishing environment" for aiding his progress towards these goals.
