HUAA Election 2002
Sarah Davidson is the founder and president of National Institute for Family Service and WINNING Events, both based in Silver Spring, Maryland. She is a freelance writer, human resource consultant and advocate for children's health care and education. She currently divides her time between the DC Metro Area and her hometown, North Little Rock (NLR), Arkansas where she is working on an African American history preservation project. She is the cofounder of the National Federation of Black Women Business Owners (NFBWB) and currently serves on the Executive Board. Ms. Davidson has served as co-coordinator of Howard University's Class of 1970 Reunion Programs. She has served as the corresponding secretary and vice president of the Washington, DC Alumni Club. In 1977 and 1978, she was the managing editor of the "Graduate", an eight-page local alumni newsletter. At age 15 Ms. Davison began her civic involvement when she organized the NLR NAACP Youth Council and served as its first president. The Youth Council forced public facilities in NLR to change their segregation policies. Her advocacy for children and youth was enhanced with positions with the Presidential Advisory Council on Education for Disadvantaged Children, Head Start and the former Howard University Children Concern Center. She hosted her own radio show on parenting and co-published a national newsletter, "Parent Preschool Press." Former U.S. Secretary of Education, William J. Bennett recognized her contributions and appointed her to the "Review Panel for the 1985-86 Elementary Education School Recognition Program." Ms. Davidson is an education consultant to the Maryland State Department of Education, and national organizations. In 1994, the Secretary of the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania invited her, with approximately 265 businesses, government, media and academic leaders to participate in a weeklong National security seminar. In 1996, she represented the NFBWBO in London, England at the inauguration of the United Kingdom Chapter. She also participated in the "International Conference of Black Women into Business Through the Millennium." Ms. Davidson has served on the Montgomery County Maryland Board of Education's Citizens Advisory Committee for Family Life and Human Development. She has served on the Board of Directors of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Capital City Chapter. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Ms. Davidson received
the Eleanor Roosevelt Scholarship for her work as a teenage civil rights
leader. She is listed in editions of Outstanding Young Women of America
and Who's Who in American Women. For more
