Larry D. Dunlap, LA BA 1973, LW JD 1981

On January 10, 1952, I was born the seventh of eleven children to Shed Dunlap, Sr. and Ethel Ballard Dunlap in the Mississippi Delta. At the age of seven, my family and I migrated to Laporte, Indiana. After graduating from Laporte High School, I attended Suomi College in Hancock, Michigan. While there, I was captain of the Suomi Lions' basketball team, a residence assistant in the dorm and a member of the student council. In 1971, I graduated from Suomi College with an Associates Arts Degree. Shortly thereafter, I won a Ford Foundation Scholarship to finance my graduate studies at any school of my choice. Of course, I chose the best, Howard University; and graduated in May 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While at Howard University, I was a member of the yearbook staff, treasurer of the Howard University Political Science Society, a Campus Pal, and participated in many other campus activities.

In addition to the first two degrees, I completed one (1) year of graduate studies in Urban Affairs at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. While there, during August 1975, my father passed away. I then went back home to help my mother and my younger siblings (two in College and one in Junior High School). After a couple of years at home, my mother was doing better and I continued my education at Howard University School of Law and graduated in May 1981.

After law school, I have been employed as a Deputy Securities Commissioner with the State of Indiana and a Law Clerk/Legal Consultant with various private firms. Currently, I am the Law Clerk and Office Manager for my college classmates and my wife, Jenice Golson Dunlap, P.C.; who is also a Howard alumna; having graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and in 1976 from the law school.

Additionally, I am the president of Howard University Alumni Club of Indianapolis, Howard University Alumni Association Region IV Representative (HUAA) and HUAA Finance Committee-Chairman.
