Welcome to your source for all things Bison on the Vineyard 2013!
The event of the summer: August 21st - August 25th, 2013
Greetings from the Bison on the Vineyard Chair
When approached to take this assignment I became excited and yet anxious. I said a fast yes instead of a slow no, especially since I have never visited the Vineyard, ever. I thought "What did I just get myself into?" However, my tenacity and my Bison passion took over logic, and I handled this volunteer assignment as I would for any other endeavor I’ve conducted. I treated it with pride, professionalism and a little bit of flare. I can’t wait for this week to begin and I hope you enjoy! See you around the island.

Welcome from the President of HUAA
Greetings Bison and friends!
The weekend of fellowship, fundraising and fun is upon us to kick off with my personal invitation to you to The President’s Welcome Reception on the rambling meadows of The Featherstone Center for the Arts where it is a destination providing inspiration education and creative nourishment, a perfect pairing for us. Address: 30 Featherstone Lane, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557. This week will include a series of networking interactive events around the island so bring your business cards and take lots of pictures! We tried very hard this year to diversify the locations to receive the full experience and unique beauty of Martha’s Vineyard.
This year for Bison on the Vineyard is forecasted to be The Perfect Year. This is our Seventh Year on the island. Here are a few fun facts, seven is known to be the number of completion, there are seven musical scales, the Rainbow presents seven colors as red, yellow, orange, green, blue, purple and grey, which builds all sceneries of the world which brings harmony and grace. More importantly Gwen Guthry has her hit Seventh Heaven! http://youtu.be/UXG7Uqr4HFU
This year we wanted to highlight A Few Good Men, ones we call our own. We will have our first Matt Middleton Golf Challenge. Matt is an established entertainment attorney who is a continued A-1 supporter of Howard University along with the Alumni Association and an avid golfer. We’re taking the game to a new level. Then through alumni brand ambassador Sean “Diddy” Combs, we are sponsored by CÎROC Ultra-Premium Vodka. “Diddy” has taken the at once struggling company from 40,000 cases a year selling product to an improved reported 2.1 million cases sold as of December 2012. By attaching his name to the product it is now the second ultra premium vodka in the world. All this to attain the truths for both men and to all of us that Howard University only gives the world their best.
I can go on and on but what would be the fun in that especially when I can do that so well in person!
I can guarantee some surprises, fresh faces, and a new illuminated aura for this alumni week. I cannot end this without naming the main purpose for this reunion, lest us not forget why we are here.
After sixty years of welcoming generations of students to the excitement of intellectual life, the time has come to restore The Founders Library to the vision of its creator by making it a ‘Smart Library’. We must erase the marks of time, and polish this beautiful structure for coming generations to admire as we have.
Now, to my BOV Planning Committee, you all have taken the Bison by the horn and have successfully made this week come together with your own personal touch to each event.
HUAA intends to achieve the following goals:
1) Increase membership through new and renewal applications
2) Further network and promote closer affiliation across generations
3) Provide continuing education credit.
4) Raise scholarship funds for students attending Howard University
I want to personally thank you for working together with all the weekly planning calls, the emails, and dedicating your personal time and resources for the birth of Bison on the Vineyard, Seventh Heaven 2013.
