There is no diagnosis in medicine that induces more fear, dread or trepidation than that of cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that approximately one in three people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Everyone knows someone touched by cancer. In the Nation's Capital, we are waging the battle against cancer and Howard University is at the forefront of cancer diagnosis, treatment and research.

In an effort to enhance our ability to defeat cancer in its many forms, I invite you to partner with the Howard University Cancer Center (HUCC) as we host our inaugural gala, A Legacy of Hope on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC. The goal of the gala is to raise critically needed funds to remodel and expand our Infusion Center. The expansion will allow for improved patient privacy and comfort, reduced wait times, increased efficiency in care and enhanced convenience.

HUCC is the only stand-alone cancer center at a Historically Black College and University in the United States. Established in 1972, HUCC has a rich legacy of clinical education and patient treatment in the areas of surgical, medical and radiation oncology as well as cancer research. Our services are culturally sensitive to the unique needs of our patients, especially medically underserved populations, and the communities where they live and work. It is through our collective efforts that we will continue to make measurable strides against cancer, providing real hope to those affected by the disease. We ask that you join our life-saving and life-changing crusade through your thoughtful and generous support as a sponsor. Please accept this invitation to join the fight against cancer. Your partnership in hosting the Legacy of Hope: One Goal, One Fight, One Cure on April 13, 2013 will help Howard University Cancer Center as we seek to fulfill our mission of reducing the burden of cancer through excellence in service, education, and research.
