A Message from Class of 1959 Reunion Committee
Dear Classmate,
Greetings from the Class of 1959 Reunion Committee! It’s hard to believe that it has been fifty years since our graduation from Howard University. Mordecai Johnson was President when we donned our beanies and merged on campus seeking inspiration and knowledge. Our years at Howard were indeed a special period in our lives, which we will always remember and cherish. Along the way, we established friendships and developed relationships, which in some instances, have lasted for a lifetime. We all can appreciate the value of our youthful experience and the importance of the education received from our alma mater.
A committee has been formed to help us reunite and celebrate this auspicious occasion and to give back to the source that helped us launch our endeavors and successes. The Golden Reunion is a tradition at Howard University, so mark your calendar now, as we prepare to celebrate our 50th Class Reunion on the dates May7 through May 10, 2009.

The tentative weekend celebration activities are as follows:
Thursday – May 7th
- ’59 Meet and Greet Reception at The Washington Court Hotel (host hotel)
Friday – May 8th
- ’59 Class Champagne Reception (Blackburn Center-– Main Campus)
- All Classes Luncheon (Blackburn Center – Main Campus)
- All Classes Welcome Back Evening Soirée (host hotel)
Saturday -- May 9th
- ‘59 Continental breakfast (Blackburn Center–Main Campus
- Commencement Exercises (Main campus)
- Academia Regalia for Commencement
- 59’ers Special Event – Spirit of Washington Dinner Cruise – “All Aboard”
Sunday -- May 10th
- All Classes Farewell Breakfast (host hotel)
The registration fee for the entire weekend celebration is $300.00 and additional guest can attend for $250.00 per person. Also included in your registration fee is the Class of ‘59’ Keepsake Journal and bus transportation from the host hotel to the Friday and Saturday events.
The host hotel is the Washington Court, located at 525 New Jersey Avenue, NW, around the corner from Union Station on Capital Hill. Rooms have been reserved for $195.00 per night under the Howard University Class Reunion 2009 Block. You must make your reservations by calling 1-800-321-3010 or (202) 628-2100 to reserve your room.
In the weeks ahead, you will be receiving detailed information from the class Gift Agents, on just how you may participate in contributing to the special Class of 1959 Gift to the University. We have set a fund raising goal of at least $150,000. If you are unable to attend our 50th Reunion Celebration, please consider making a generous donation toward the Class of 1959 Reunion Gift Campaign.
Plan to join us and participate in this once in a lifetime celebration. Spread the word to other classmates. If you know of any classmates who may not have been contacted, please provide their name, address, and email and telephone number to the Department of Alumni Relations: 202-806-5857 or jshorter@howard.edu. We are also seeking names of any deceased classmates to be included in the necrology listing for memorial tributes.
