Howard Students Deliver 1,000-Plus Books to D.C. High School
WASHINGTON – A week ago, there was almost nothing in the mid-sized room that served as the library for Washington Metropolitan High School, save two barely-stocked bookshelves with four disconnected computer monitors.

Today, there are hundreds of books stacked up across the room.  There range from  algebra to the Autobiography of Malcolm X,  from Langston Hughes to Howard Hughes, from language to love stories. 

They are the fruits of a two-week book drive by Howard University student to give the students at Washington Metropolitan a well-stocked library. ...more


Students Launch Book Drive to Fill Public High School Library
WASHINGTON (March 3) – Howard University students, in response to a news report of a Washington, D.C., high school that doesn't have enough books in its library, have launched a campaign to collect and donate more than 1,000 books to Washington Metropolitan High School as part of their annual Alternative Spring Break program. The students are asking faculty, staff and students at Howard University, as well as bookstores, publishing companies and individuals throughout the Washington D.C. area, for high school appropriate fiction, non-fiction and reference books.

Students Weather Rain to Raise $32K to Help Others in U.S., Haiti
WASHINGTON (Mach 7) -- Despite the downpour, scores of Howard University students, many of them soaked from the rain, took to the streets for 12 hours Sunday to raise money so they can help people in Haiti and in five U.S. cities during their spring break.

The WHUR 96.3 Helping Hands radiothon, an annual fundraising event to help send hundreds of students across the country to help residents in troubled neighborhoods across the globe, raised $32,000.  The effort is
