About Washington

Formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, the District, or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States and named in honor of the first United States president, George Washington. Washington D.C. houses some of the most historical and influential landmarks and memorials in the United States including the Capitol Building, the Washington Monument, and the White House. Washington D.C. sports teams include the Washington Redskins (NFL), Washington Nationals (MBL), Washington Wizards (NBA), Washington Mystics (WNBA), DC United (MLS) and the Washington Nationals (NHL).
