Howard University > Alternative Spring Break 2011 - District of Columbia
While in D.C

Howard University students in Washington D.C. will be tutoring in literacy skills at Elsie Whitlow Stokes Charter School, Savoy Elementary, Harriet Tubman Elementary, Cleveland Elementary and H.D. Cooke Elementary.

Volunteers have also launched a two-week book drive campaign to help raise books to furnish and categorize books for a new library at Washington Metropolitan High School, a new high school near Howard’s campus that currently has no library for their students. Donation centers for the book drive will be open until March 18 for high school appropriate fiction and non-fiction, textbook, and reference book donations. Donation centers can be found at the Howard University Bookstore, Founders Library, Cramton Auditorium, and the Howard University Hospital. All donations will be used to stock the shelves of the newly built library and will be presented after a ribbon-cutting ceremony to the students and faculty of Washington Metropolitan High School March 19, 2011.
