APA Citation Style (from ProQuest)

Prints according to the APA guidelines for citing electronic resources. For more information, see the APA site.

Use the templates below to verify and correct the formatting of your document citations for the main publication types in ProQuest. In particular, the format of author names and publication dates in individual citations is likely to need further adjustment

Author initials should be followed by periods and separated by a space (for example: Other, A. N.).

Scholarly journals:

author1_last_name, author1_initials, author2+_last_name, author2+_initials, & finalauthor_last_name, finalauthor_initials. (publication_year). document_title. journal_title, volume_number, page_numbers. Retrieved date_accessed, from ProQuest database. (Document ID: document_ID).

The issue number should be included for journals with non-continuous pagination throughout a volume in the format: volume_number(issue_number)

Example:

Magazines, trade publications:

author1_last_name, author1_initials, author2+_last_name, author2+_initials, & finalauthor_last_name, finalauthor_initials. (pub_year, pub_month_unabbreviated). document_title. magazine_title, volume_number(issue_number), page_numbers. Retrieved date_accessed, from ProQuest database. (Document ID: document_ID).

The day should be included in the publication date for weekly magazines in the format: pub_year, pub_month_unabbreviated pub_day.

Example:

Newspapers:

author1_last_name, author1_initials, author2+_last_name, author2+_initials, & finalauthor_last_name, finalauthor_initials. (pub_year, pub_month_unabbreviated pub_day). document_title. newspaper_title, page_numbers. Retrieved date_accessed, from ProQuest database. (Document ID: document_ID).

Page numbers for newspaper documents should be preceded by p. (single page) or pp. (multiple pages).

Example:
Kaufman, M. (1999, August 2). Diagnosis Crucial to Anxiety Disorder; Symptoms, which can appear as headaches, stomach trouble or heart attacks, are generally not taught in medical school. Dissertations

The template below is for a citation to the full text of a dissertation abstracted in DAI, MAI or ADD publications and obtained electronically.

author1_last_name, author1_initials, author2+_last_name, author2+_initials, & finalauthor_last_name, finalauthor_initials. (publication_year_of_DAI_issue). dissertation_title [alternative_title]. publication_title_in_full, volume_number (issue_number), page_number_plus_section_identifier. Retrieved date_accessed, from ProQuest Digital Dissertations database. (Publication No. publication_number).

English Example:

Records with series information are treated as a volume in a titled series of books.
