Commemorating Emancipation

Please join the National Endowment for the Humanities and Howard University at the Lincoln Memorial for a commemorative ceremony celebrating emancipation and its role in shaping the U.S. Constitution.

Howard University is hosting two live video feeds of the panel discussion on emancipation on Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Blackburn Center Auditorium and in the Screening Room West in the C.B. Powell building.

In partnership with Howard University, the National Endowment for the Humanities is hosting a commemorative event at the Lincoln Memorial, which will feature artistic interpretations of the emancipation experience. The program will showcase Howard University alumnus and actor Tyree Young and the acclaimed actress Alfre Woodard. The event will conclude with reflections on the occasion by Congressman John Lewis.
