NOBEL LAUREATE
WOLE SOYINKA

RWANDA: PARADIGM FOR A CONTINENT

The College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce that Nobel Laureate Akinwande Oluwole (Wole) Soyinka, one of the world's greatest contemporary writers and social commentators and the first African to win the Nobel Prize in literature (1986), will address the University community.

This year's common text for the COAS Freshman Seminar, Freshman Composition and other introduction-level courses is Soyinka's Of Africa (Yale University Press, 2012). The University community is also invited to join a student forum where Professor Soyinka will respond to student commentary about discourses and questions raised in the text from 2:10 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Browsing Room of Founder's Library, and then for the lecture at 6 p.m. in West Ballroom.

The lecture will be live-streamed in Cramton Auditorium and online. Professor Soyinka's visit to Howard is sponsored by COAS, the Sterling Alan Brown Chair in English and the Humanities, and the John and Eula Cleveland Chair in Afro-American Studies.
