Dream On: Interdisciplinary Explorations of the Howard University Community
(Performing Arts)

The Howard University Office of the Provost and faculty members engaged in interdisciplinary coursework will host a forum titled, "Dream On: Interdisciplinary Explorations of the Howard University Community" at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 in room 240 of Founders Library.

The forum will feature music, drama, poetry, and dance performances as well as student presentations of interdisciplinary research conducted around the "I Have a Dream" theme. The student research is sponsored by the Mellon Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Research Program, which has organized interdisciplinary course initiatives at Howard since 2006. The initiatives were initially funded by a Mellon Foundation Grant, but they continue through the dedication of Howard's faculty.

The "I Have A Dream" theme coincides with several important anniversaries and other events, including the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech at the March on Washington; the renewal of the political campaign for the Dream Act; the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation; the re-election of President Obama, author of Dreams of My Father; and the 100th anniversary of the birthday of Langston Hughes, author of "A Dream Deferred."
