Maroons in the United States Lecture Series

The School of Communications, MFA Film program in conjunction with the Department of English will be hosting a Lecture Series on the Maroons in the United States. The term Maroon was used to describe "runaways from the slave system who formed autonomous communities comprised of tens of thousands Americans who were fighting to maintain their lands ,culture. As well as escaping and resisting slavery."

On Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 7:30pm in Screening Room West in the School of Communications we will also host Dr.Terry Weik a professor at University of South Carolina.

The lecture will be filmed and featured in Prof.Hailie Gerimas Documentary on Maroons in the United States. Please refer to his website http://www.maroonsproject.com.
