Research Week Activity for Freshman Seminar
(Library)

THE FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE: Persuasive Writing & Research Monday, April 8th from 11-1pm One of Howard University's missions is to equip students with the skills essential for leadership and service. The English Department's First Year Writing Program envisions writing as a liberatory enterprise through which students develop the knowledge and competencies needed to navigate a variety of academic, professional, and social spaces. Persuasive Writing and Research, a course that prepares students to promote and defend issues of concern through argumentation and the research process, is designed to enable students to argue effectively by stressing critical reading, logical thinking, research techniques, and an awareness of contemporary issues. This session will facilitate discussion about the benefits of engaging in pre-research activities as a part of the first-year experience. During the session, students will discuss digital writing projects and exhibit poster presentations.
