The three official convocations (formal ceremonies) that take place at Howard University during each academic year are Opening, Charter Day and Commencement.

The two buildings on Howard’s campus that are named after U.S. congressmen are Cramton Auditorium (named after Rep. Louis C. Cramton, R-MI) and the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library (named after Rep. Louis Stokes, D-OH).

Now it's your turn to test your knowledge. The first five people to respond correctly to the following two-part question will receive a Howard t-shirt. Remember, both answers must be correct to qualify. Please send your response to ouc@howard.edu. (This year’s history quiz questions are provided by Moorland-Spingarn Research Center.)

  • This president of Howard University served, while on leave, as United States Representative on the United Nations Security Council and, also, as Deputy Representative with the rank of ambassador at the U.N.  Can you name him and, also, the U.S. president who appointed him to the post?
