The Dr. Lonnie E. Mitchell National HBCU Substance Abuse Conference continues the legacy and work of the late Dr. Lonnie E. Mitchell, an esteemed educator, administrator, policy advisor and psychotherapist.
Dr. Mitchell had a vision to bring cutting edge substance abuse research and policy to the public. When he came to Coppin State College in 1987, Dr. Mitchell communicated this vision by establishing a regional and national forum for Historically Black Colleges and Universities designed to inform, educate and stimulate students, researchers and faculty on issues related to substance abuse.
The Dr. Lonnie E. Mitchell National Substance Abuse Conference continues as an annual event. It will be hosted each year by a different HBCU in the Baltimore area.
