your capabilities are, how they are demonstrated and what you
must do as a follow-up to your process of development.
Participation further provides you an opportunity to hear from
us professionals in the field intensely giving critical feedback
towards application of your technical skill and
physical capability and further address your cognitive skills of
oral and written communication as well as the chance for you to
evaluate your development as measured by professionals in the
field of dance. It also give a reality check and balance profile
of you, your readiness, and assessment of information.
The
Dance Intensive (which will not only include new entrants to the
Howard University Dance Program but other high school students,
professional artists and general population participants)
marathon of classes, in addition to intensive preparation for
concert performance with guest choreographers, a diverse
exposure to dance forms and choreographic content, on-going
presence of legendary African-American artists in the
profession, and summer intensive assignments that include work
with professional companies such as Ronald K. Brown
choreographer for Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, Garth Fagan Dance
(choreographer for Lion King) represent a small portion of the
dance curriculum offerings.
This
dance intensive is part of the dance major curriculum and is
structured with the art of dance as an extremely high level
academic that includes the type of work encountered in the field
of dance while also offering skills that can provide even
greater professional choices upon graduation.
We
require a great deal of thinking and intense writing in the
synthesis context that is based in affective and cognitive
information with all students expecting to develop physically
and orally in their presentational skills for all they do and
how they do in the development of the art form. This
all-inclusive dance intensive addresses the audition process for
entry into the dance major process and curriculum structured
program of serious development, evaluation, and results.
We look
forward to you and your excited energy of involvement,
Denise Saunders Thompson
