The gift of 12 Renaissance and Baroque paintings and one Renaissance sculpture from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation of New York in 1961, represents one of a number of such collections placed by the Foundation in art centers and university galleries throughout the country. Donated because of the Department of Art's serious undertaking of the teaching of art history, the study collection includes work from Giorgione and His Circle, Bernardino Licinio, and the Circle of Domenico Ghirlandaio among others.
