Sherrill Berryman-Johnson
is associate professor of dance and coordinator of the Dance
Major Program. Her role as a leader in the dance field not only includes
technical training and instruction in the Katherine Dunham technique but
also as performer, choreographer, artistic director of Images of Cultural
Artistry, as well as a pioneer dance administrator in the development and
implementation of the premier historically black college or university,
Department of Theatre Arts Dance Major Program.
Among Dr. Berryman-Johnson's
distinguished accomplishments are principal investigator/recipient of several
grants including the Lila Wallace Readers Digest Arts Partnership, scholar
and researcher in the field of dance, several articles, monographs and
scholarly books on Dance as an Art Form and Culture of a People. She is
on the advisory board of Talking Drum: A Journal of Black Dance, the editorial
of Journal of Black Dance and International Journal of African Dance and
chairperson of the International Association of Blacks in Dance.
