Inclement Weather Information
|
April 11, 2003 Each graduating senior will receive two (2) color-coded tickets for special guests seating on the Upper Quadrangle. These color-coded tickets will be valid for special guests seating, rain or shine. If the weather permits, the ceremony will be held outdoors on the Upper Quadrangle as planned. In the event of inclement weather, the following conditions will govern our proceedings. INTERMITTENT SHOWERS If the weather forecast calls for the possibility of intermittent showers, the University will proceed with an accelerated Commencement Convocation on the Upper Quadrangle (on time or delayed), unless heavy rain or thunder and lightning make that plan prohibitive. INCLEMENT WEATHER If weather conditions are such that the Commencement Convocation must be held indoors, an announcement will be made via Howard University’s radio and television stations. Under our inclement weather plan, the Convocation will be held in the John H. Burr Gymnasium, 6th and Girard Streets, NW. If the Convocation must be held inside, all graduates must report to Burr Gymnasium and be seated by 8:00 a.m. Limited indoor seating will be available to view the Convocation via simulcast on WHUT-TV. However, such accommodations will only be available for each graduate’s two special guests who possess the color-coded tickets. If the weather is unfavorable and the ceremony is held indoors, the color-coded tickets entitle the graduates’ special guests to simulcast viewing of the Commencement at the following sites on campus: • Burr Gymnasium (lower level) - Red tickets • Cramton Auditorium - Purple tickets • Ira Aldridge Theatre - Orange tickets • School of Business Auditorium - Green tickets • Blackburn Center - Yellow tickets • Rankin Chapel - Pink tickets Attached is a campus map that indicates the location of the above referenced buildings. Please remember that both WHUR Radio, 96.3 FM and Howard University’s WHUT-TV (Channel-32) will be broadcasting the ceremonies live, whether they are held on the Upper Quadrangle or in Burr Gymnasium. The University is making every effort to accommodate as many guests and visitors as possible in the event of inclement weather. If we are forced to implement our inclement weather plan for the Commencement exercises, we ask for your cooperation and patience. Thank you for your continued support of the University’s efforts to make this a most successful and enjoyable Commencement 2003. Sincerely, //original signed// H. Patrick Swygert President |
