Who among Universities and Colleges
You are at: Home > Student Activities > Who's Who among Universities and Colleges
Who’s Who is a national program that honors outstanding students annually for their academic achievements, leadership skills, level of participation and activism, and their citizenship and service to the University and the community.
Criteria and Standards
The Who's Who award is presented to students who are of junior, senior or graduate student academic status and whose academic standing, participation in extracurricular activities and level of community service during their years at Howard University are decidedly above average. The minimum GPA for inclusion is 2.00, which is verified by the Registrar's Office. There are two ways that students can be considered for the Who’s Who award, by applying or by nomination from faculty or academic staff. All students who meet the basic requirements are required to fill out an application detailing their accomplishments, which is used in the overall selection process. The number of students the University can nominate is based on a national formula determined by enrollment.
A committee consisting of administration, faculty, and the student body review the applications and conduct a selection process using a rating system. Utilizing the ratings derived by each committee member, averages are drawn and the final selection of nominees for the Who’s Who award is made.
Upon completion of the committee’s review and selection of the nominees for the Who’s Who award, all applicants will be informed as to whether or not they were selected. Additionally, the national Who’s Who Among Students In American Universities & Colleges office will contact all nominees directly to congratulate them and to request that they complete a profile of themselves to be included in the annual Who’s Who publication.
Who’s Who awards will be distributed to all nominees at a ceremony that will be held prior to Spring commencement in honor of those students who will receive the distinguished award.
