CHEERLEADING COACH

Howard University Cheerleaders are about more than just football and basketball games. On top of rigorous practice schedules, traveling during football season, making appearances and participating in community service events, we expect all of our cheerleaders to be the best students they can be.

Requirements:

- All cheerleaders must have at least a 2.5 grade point average to cheer.
First semester freshmen are exempt.

- Strong jumps
(toe touch, side hurdlers and pike)

- Sharp motions

- Ability to stunt
(males : partner stunting - females: group stunts)

- Lots of spirit

- A positive ATTITUDE!!

** Standing back handspring or round-off back handspring are a bonus to the
requirements

Commonly Asked Questions:

What is the difference between White Squad and Blue Squad?

White Squad cheers only women¹s basketball and Blue Squad cheers football
season and men¹s basketball. Both squads can participate in competition.

Do I have to pay to be a cheerleader?

Yes. For the 2007-2008 school year, the fee is $50. The fee can be lowered
or raised depending on the needs of the team

When is practice?

Practice is every day, unless otherwise scheduled by the coach, from 6am
until 8am in the Lower Gym of Burr.

Do I have to tryout every year?

Yes. No one is guaranteed a spot on the squad for their term at Howard and
we look for the best talent each year. Everyone is required to tryout.

Is tumbling required to make a Squad?

No. While specific tumbling passes are not required, the more difficult the
skill you can demonstrate, the more points you will receive in this
category.
