From The Chairman:
The Faculty Grievance Commission has an Overall Mission:
To protect and uphold the rights and academic freedom of our colleagues, and insure that due process is followed.
Welcome to the web pages of the Howard University's Faculty Grievance Commission. The Faculty Grievance Commission is an independent, conflict resolution mechanism body, whose function is to hear and decide grievances that are brought before the commission by any member of the University's faculty who believes there is a legitimate need for intervention and/or mediation by a neutral body to decide an academic freedom infringement or a negation of due process. The Commission is tasked with conducting thorough investigations, hold hearings, and issuing a summary statement of its findings to all parties involved. The Commission is assisted by an independent legal counsel who is quite familiar with labor relations and those that relate to faculty, such as promotion, tenure and other matters that may affect varying degrees of one's career status. We, the Commissioners, invite you to consult the pages of Section 2.8 of the Faculty Handbook (PDF Page 22) to gain personal insight on what constitutes a grievance, and the interpretation of the governing statutes. Again, protecting the rights and academic freedom of our colleagues is paramount to the very existence of this mediating body, and the continued success of all academic endeavors of Howard University.
