ServicesMISSION AND SERVICES Howard University Hospital Comprehensive Area Resources, Entitlements and Services (HUH CARES) provides a coordinated, community-wide approach to planning and delivering health services for HIV infected and affected women, men, adolescents, children and their families. The project provides free outpatient medical, dental, mental health, nutrition and social services for HIV positive uninsured and underinsured residents of the District of Columbia. All CARES services are provided at no cost to the client. Our Objectives
The HUH CARES Program Provides: Primary Medical Care: Office Visits; Physical Exams; STD Testing; Pregnancy Testing; TB Testing; PAP Smears Dental Service: Dental Exams; Radiology; Prophylaxis; Oral Cancer Treatment; Soft Tissue Biopsy; Microscopic Evaluation Case Management: Comprehensive Assessment of Client Needs; Assisting Clients in Acquiring Services Nutritional Services: Dietary Assessment; Counseling and Management; Nutrition Education; Nutritional Supplements Mental Health Services: Individual Adult and Adolescent Counseling; Family and Couples Counseling; Group Counseling Treatment Adherence: Medication and Lifestyle Counseling and Management; Information and Materials Distribution Subspecialty Care: Referrals to specialty services at no cost (OB-GYN, Ophthalmology, etc.) HIV Counseling and Testing: Pre- and Post-Test Counseling; Resource and Information referrals Interpreter Services: Translation services for those with limited English proficiency HUH WIC Family Center: Provides Supplemental Foods and Nutritional Education to women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at Nutritional Risk Project Rose (Reaching Out for Successful Early Intervention): Developmental Screening, Assessment, and Interventions for at-risk infants and children up to age 3
Who is Eligible for HUH CARES services? We provide services to uninsured and underinsured HIV positive men, women, adolescents and children residing in the District of Columbia.

COMING SOON... HUH CARES is developing a multi-media library of resources for HIV positive individuals and those who just want to learn more about HIV/AIDS. The LARC (Library and Resource Center) will be located at 2018 Georgia Avenue NW, and will include interactive computer games, magazines, props and displays, board games, videos, brochures, community calendars, and much more – All focused on HIV/AIDS and related topics. Health professionals will always be available to answer questions and make referrals. The Grand Opening will be this summer.
