Celebration and Vision:
The Hewitt Collection of
African-American Art

Howard University Gallery of Art
Childers Hall
August 13 - October 15, 2000

The Hewitt Collection of African-American Art is regarded as one of the most important and comprehensive collections of art produced by artists of color during this century. The 55 works of art by 20 artists stand as a testament to the passion of the collectors, John and Vivian Hewitt, their close interaction with many of the artists, and their dedication and vision. This exhibit also celebrates the sense of community that has been central to the history of African-American culture.

The national tour of the Hewitt Collection is sponsored by the Bank of America Foundation.
