1. Familiarize yourself
with the library system before
you need to use it. Take
a tour to discover what services and facilities
are offered.
|
2. Have a clear understanding of what the assignment
is, when it is due, how much information is needed,
and what style
manual (i.e. APA style or MLA style) should be
used.
|
3. Accept responsibility
for your work. Librarians
will expect you to know what your assignment
is; to bring relevant assignment sheets, class notes,
textbooks, etc.; and to discuss what steps you have
already taken.
In most cases, the librarian will interview
you to determine how to meet your needs. Information
Specialists (a.k.a. Librarians) are also available
to assist you with research projects.
|
4. Come prepared with the
necessary supplies: your photo HU ID card, paper,
note cards, pen or pencil, 3½” disks for downloading,
and cash for photocopying.
|
5. Start
early to avoid frustration.
Sometimes the necessary sources have
been checked out or are not on the shelves. The
Circulation or Loan Services staff can search
for
these items or borrow them through Interlibrary
Loan, if given sufficient time.
