All I forgot to ask
By Alysha

Granny-
I forgot to ask if I made you proud
What was life like when you
Were running about young and spry?
You are too young to be gone
But I still forgot to ask.
What was I like to be you and now
How do I handle what my children will put me through?
Who is going to tell me if what they say is true?
Now who will say follow your heart or chase your dreams,
It’s all right when life isn’t what it seems.
I remember when you would listen to me sing
You said, “ Baby, up above bells would ring.”
Now you are the one in Heaven, steadily shining down
You’ve left me here standing and listening around
To the answers for all I forgot to ask.
All I have left is your wisdom from the past.
Can I still ask you now, or am I a second too late?
Now, whom do I ask when, to me, my fate is not clear?
Since he took you and you are no longer, near.
It’s funny, because now I know exactly what to ask.
Will you continue to lead me, guide me?
Can you still protect and advise me,
Even though I forgot to say goodbye?
I did not want to admit that there was no more time,
I did not want to believe you would ever die.
Now all I have are all those things
I forgot to ask.
