Creating Web Pages with FrontPage
A Guide for CyberCamp
Before we begin--
Let us download an
image onto a disc.
Later, we will insert this computer image onto our
Web page.
- Double click the Internet Explorer icon
and wait for the page to load.
- Click on Open and type:
http://www.signgray.demon.co.uk/clipart/object-c.htm
- When the page appears, position the mouse pointer over the computer image
and click on it with the right mouse button.
- Click on Save Picture.
- Choose 3 1/2 floppy (A) and click Save.
How to start FrontPage
- On the Windows taskbar, click on the
Start button
- Point to Programs and click on Microsoft FrontPage.
- You have now opened a blank page in FrontPage that is ready for
editing.
How to create a title for your Web
page.
- Type the title: Creating Web Pages with FrontPage:
A Guide for CyberCamp.
- Highlight the title by clicking and dragging over it.
- Click on Format on the menu bar.
- Click on Font.
- Under Font size, choose 5 (18 pt).
- Under Color, choose blue.
- Under Font style, choose bold.
- Click OK.
- Choose the center alignment.
- Move the mouse pointer to white space and click.
How to create a subtitle
- Hit the Enter key twice.
- Type the subtitle: What is a Web page?
- Highlight the subtitle by clicking and dragging over it.
- Click on Format on the menu bar.
- Click on Font.
- Under Font size, choose 4 (14 pt).
- Under Color, choose red.
- Under Effect, choose Underline.
- Click OK.
- Choose the left alignment.
- Move the mouse pointer to white space and click.
How to create a paragraph
- Hit the Enter key twice.
- Type the following paragraph. Include the misspelled word
( paper) :
A Web page is a publishing instrument that is used to post a single
unit of information that is available via the World Wide Web. A Web page
can be longer than one computer screen and can be on more than one piece of papar
when it is printed out.
- Highlight the paragraph by clicking and dragging over it from right to
left.
- Click on Format on the menu bar.
- Click on Font.
- Under Font size, choose 3 (12 pt).
- Under Color, choose Automatic.
- Under Font style, choose regular.
- Under Effect, delete the check in front of
Underline.
- Click OK.
- Move the mouse pointer to white space and click.
How to
spell check a document
- (In the above paragraph, we deliberately misspelled
paper.)
- Click on Tools and select Spelling.
- To correct the spelling of papar, choose paper
from the suggested spellings .
- Check the spelling of other words. Make changes,
if necessary.
- Click OK when you have finished.
How to
create a link to another Web page
Let us create a link to the Howard University Libraries Web page. First, move the cursor to the end of the paragraph, hit
the Enter key twice, and type the following:
The Founders Library is the main library at Howard
University.
Highlight The Founders Library in the above
sentence by depressing the left mouse button, dragging the cursor
over the name, then releasing the mouse. You are now ready to create
a link to the resources on the Howard University Libraries homepage.
How to
color the background of your Web page
- Right-click anywhere on your page.
- Click Page Properties on the shortcut
menu. Then click the Background tab.
- In the Background box, click on the
down arrow and click on More Colors.
- Select a pale background color.
- Click OK. If you do not like the color
that you have selected, repeat the process to select another color.
How to insert an
image onto your Web page
- Choose Insert from the menu bar.
- Choose Picture.
- See "Look in:" Click on the down arrow, select 31/2 floppy (A) and click
on Open.
- Click on "Computer" to select this image, then
click
OK.
How to change the position of the image
on your Web page
- Left click on the computer image.
- Choose Edit and click on Cut.
- Hit the enter key twice to position the cursor at the left margin.
Click on Edit, then click on Paste.
- To change the alignment of your image, left click on the
image; then, choose one of the
alignment options. For this exercise, choose to align the image
in the center.
How to write text next to your image
- Left click on the image.
- Choose Format from the menu bar, then choose
Position.
- Under Wrapping Style, choose Right.
- Under Positioning Style, choose None.
- Click OK.
- Press the spacebar and type:

How to save your work.
- Choose File from the menu bar.
- Choose Save As.
- Choose 3 1/2 Floppy [A:] from the Save in box.
- Assign a name to your Web page by typing: HowToCreateWebPages.
[Type the name as a single word]
- Click on Save.
How to reopen a document that you
saved in Compose.
- Double click the FrontPage icon
and wait for the page to load.
- Click on Open.
- Choose 3 1/2 Floppy [A:] from the Look in box.
- Click on the name of the document you want to open.
- Click on Open.
For this exercise, your Web page should look like this when you
finish (except that the background should be in the background color that you
chose):
