Because God Told Her to Pray for Him
Codie Elaine Brooks
Fort Worth, Texas - Marketing

She feels abandoned,
but underneath lies hope
because God told her to pray for him.

They tell her to forget about him.
She has heard enough about “fish in the sea.”
She hears them,
but would feel that she’s abandoning him,
because God told her to pray for him.

No one can admit they relate.
They think her a fool,
but she ignores them,
because God told her to pray for him.

“Friends” she calls even those who mock her.
No one compliments a risk, she remembers,
sometimes not even those who believe in Him.
She can’t fail
because God told her to pray for him.

She sits alone in corners, hallways, and bathrooms.
It’s hard to endure;
but giving up is harder,
because God told her to pray for him.

He tells her of disappointment and fear.
She wants to be his solution.
He tells her of self-discovery.
She wants to lead him to himself.
They are divided by a void,
a void of uncertainty.
She worries, she cries, she feels helpless, she knows love,
then she remembers that God told her to pray for him.

Maybe it is too early to tell,
too soon to assess,
but no end can be better predicted
because God told her to pray for him.
