Faces & Voices IV
AN ANTHOLOGY OF VERSE AND PROSE

“My parents taught me that whatever path we chose, we should always choose el camino de la verdad-the path of truth – no matter how hard it might be, whatever it might cost. That we shouldn’t value life over truth. That it was better to lose your life than to loss the truth.”
-Subcommandante Marcos ’94

Work-in-Progress
Ixtaccihuatl Gonzalez

My conception was inevitable, it was predestined for me to come into existence, physically, was meant for me to be. The ‘Gods’ deemed it so.
My heart beats the universal rhythm of our Ancestors drums. Resonating within my chest, throughout my body, down to my feet, into and from the earth itself. Intense, vibrant and eternal, it is the beat of life.
My soul embodies my all, the passion I was born with, the passion I will die with, it will live forever. It has seeped into and touched every aspect of everything I ever was, I am, I will be. A monument of the enigmatic force that travels through, beyond, space and time.
My blood flows thick and strong. Caring the genetic code for pure perfection. Mine and mine alone. Wine red, midnight blue, it is the elixir of life mixed together, aged for thousands of years. It is a vestige of the origin.
My essence is woman, strong, proud and fertile. A warrior and a mother, I am a multitude of elements. Distinct qualities precisely combined to compliment and enhance my partner. Completing the male / female equilibrium.
My womb carries the future of our existence. Life. Caresses and nourishes it. Creates and sustains all the possibility and all the potential of all that we are. Our zenith embodied.
My eyes are mirrors of this life, possessing the reflection of all that surrounds us, of us. They show our matrix, brilliant and simple, yet complex in our blindness. They open with the dawning of light, to new possibilities and new opportunities, and close with the finality and completion of death.
My thoughts shoot out, never ending tentacles, reaching, searching, moving, so fast and so far, that they become tangled and confused. Lost in a void, veiled by the incomprehensible. Insatiable in their quest for coherency and connection.
My knowledge is inherent. Accumulated and passed down, by high priests and shepherds, it sustains the fundamental truths, basic algebraic equations and astronomical configurations. Burning bright within me, deep, deep, within me, it ignites my desire for awareness.
Me mind struggles to find its way home, struggles to break off the chains which force it to lie naked and bare, innocent and pure in its purpose, yet filled and covered with the deceit. Incessantly searching to understand and to realize its entirety.
My purpose is truth, the barriers and obstacles that strive to convert it, blind it, kill it, cannot even touch it. The truth will set you, me, free. I challenge all; I dare to be challenged. My truth is you truth is everyone’s same truth. We are all the same, we are all one, separate pieces, together whole.
