Faces & Voices IV
AN ANTHOLOGY OF VERSE AND PROSE

LetteUntitled

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want
This time Lord, I’m making a plea
I want You to undo Your latest deed.
My phone rang loudly in the middle of the night
I knew that this situation wasn’t trite.
I picked up the phone and cradled it to my head
My Mother whispered to me that he was dead.
It seems he got in a fight with some ignorant boys
Who didn’t understand that guns are not toys.
They shot him and left him there on his own
And on that night he never came home.
At first I thought it was some sick joke
My mother announcing that he’d gotten smoked.
You see we were inseparable, he and I
So You see it’s impossible, he just can’t die.
After this tragedy, I’m not sure if You’re there.
I’m just hoping that you can hear this one prayer
My brother’s memory will live as a haunt
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.
