& Voices IV AN ANTHOLOGY OF VERSE AND
PROSE
My
Whirlwind Tiara Wilkinson
It takes me a while
To figure out what I need
Until I'm lying flat
Staring at the bleed
My hope is taken for granted
By myself
I just expect God to grant
His mercy and love
In all my situations
Forgetting so quickly
The devil's visitations
And that is why
I fall so easily
Paying this machinery
All the attention
Without one mention
Of the One who is at that moment
Allowing me to breathe
I drift from day to day
Pausing on one
To say a small thanks
For about three hours
Not full recognizing the Power
Has been keeping me for 168
I'm surprised this late
And now I must wait
And wade through these waters
I've drifted through
To reach the rock
That has been solid
All along
I choke out Freedom's Song
I never really needed it
All along
And I know it
Yet I refuse to show it
And finally get up and grow
But I'm so eager to impress you
Though inside you hold no truth
So afraid of rejection
I find myself in lone dejection
Contemplating how to make you like
When it is you whom I must fight
Because of this I cry out at night
To none other than the One who
Creates my destiny
Does he tire of pulling my soul free?
