Newfound Happiness
By Kyeba Jackman

I think I have found happiness,
It took me a while but I did
I removed all of my cancers
People that were not healthy for my growth;
Parents, ‘friends’, even a boyfriend.

My environment changed
I am now at University
I started off totally lost and confused
For I was away from anything vaguely familiar

It was here I grew
I learned true independence
I was responsible for everything from purchasing texts to clean clothes
This was different

But this new situation taught me to rely on me
Mummy and Daddy are not here to look over my work
I no longer have a ‘ceaseless’ source of money.
I may look and sound the same but I have definitely
GROWN

And all of this though it was the scenic route brought me to
HAPPINESS
