Anticipation & Anxiety

I lay down and wait
Waiting to fall asleep
Waiting in vain
For as I wait
My mind begins to wander and
Anticipation & Anxiety creep in
And engulf me
And I lay there, this night
Like so many others
I think, thoughts random, yet connected.
On this night, like others, I lay sleepless
Thinking, pondering, wondering
Did I make it?
Am I the one?
Did I make the cut?
Anticipation & Anxiety slowly overtake me
And I begin to worry
Worry if I made it
If I’m the one
If I made the cut
And as I think, wonder and worry
I realize that tomorrow
Tomorrow I will know
Tomorrow it will be clear
And tomorrow night will not be a sleepless night
And then,
I think back to this night
This night
Sleepless like many others
This night,
The same, yet different
This night…
I close my eyes and know it’s done
For this night, I know
The madness has ended
And after this night
Anticipation & Anxiety will inhabit me
No more.
