The Awakening
By Carla-Marie Ulerie

And my eyes were opened
And I saw
And I felt
And I knew.
I would never be the same.
The darkest shades couldn't dim the light.
There it was
Like a heart throbbing,
Like a sore festering,
And then
It exploded,
Spewing all that it had held in captivity,
All it wanted to but couldn't let out.
Finally, all was set free.
The response was yet to come,
Anticipated, but not forthcoming.
Just noise,
As loud as silence . . . .
