EXPLORATION
CYBERCAMP
CyberCamp Objectives
The Digital Learning Classroom in the
Founders Library is the home base for this computer adventure. CyberCamp
is designed to strengthen the information technology skills of youth in
the Washington metropolitan area. Campers will explore designated landmarks
on the Internet and visit major cultural centers on actual field trips.
They will attend special presentations by selected faculty, review
biographical websites on inventors and innovators, and learn about
the patent and trademark process. By the end of the camp, participants
will navigate the Internet effectively and conduct effective searches.
They will also have a broader knowledge of the cultural heritage of
the District of Columbia.
At the end of the CyberCamp students
will:
-
exhibit technological literacy
-
send, read, and reply to e-mail messages
-
construct effective search strategies
for selected search engines and databases
-
construct a web page
-
logically organize data gathered through
observation or interviewing
-
describe how the cultural and educational
resources in a community can influence the discoveries and innovations
the resident makes later in life
-
recognize the contributions of African
Americans to the culture and character of the city and the nation
