Art and Related Resources Online
 

This guide supports the in-class demonstration of available online databases and web resources for students enrolled in ARTH 164 Survey of the Visual Arts, and ARTH 165 Introduction of the Visual Arts, who are currently researching and studying art and related subjects.

Online Databases
General humanities databases provide a wealth of information pertaining to art and related subjects. All links to the proprietary sources are from library's A-Z listing of Databases—Citations, Abstracts, Full Text Articles. You may need to scroll and search for the desired title within the webpage. If off-campus, the link is accessible after authentication.

Academic Search Premier (EBSCOhost)
search strategy hint: click-on the "subject terms" tab to identify articles using the database's index.

ABI/Inform
search strategy tool: (1) use the Proquest Smart Search indexing tools, by using their indexing vocabularies in the "Suggested Topic Box" and "Browse Suggested Publications" (2) narrow your search by scholarly journal, magazine, trade publications, newspapers, reference reports, dissertations.

LexisNexis
search strategy hint: (1) select "sources" to search for articles in a specific newspaper or journal. (2) narrow the results of your initial search by using the "Focus" field.

The Internet offers a plethora of information on art. The websites listed herein will guide the student, directly, to scholarly resources.

Vocabulary Source:
Art and Architecture Thesaurus - As part of The Getty Museum's Vocabulary Program  "[the] AAT is a structured vocabulary of around 34,000 concepts, including 131,000 terms, descriptions, bibliographic citations, and other information relating to fine art, architecture, decorative arts, archival materials, and material culture."
