Log on to the Founders Library homepage http://www.howard.edu/library and click on Indexes, Abstracts, Articles to search the following databases:

  • America: History and Life - includes abstracts of journal articles, articles in collections, dissertations, book and media reviews on the history and culture of the US and Canada.
  • Ask ERIC - an open-access service of the Educational Resources Information Center providing education information to teachers, librarians, counselors, administrators, parents, and others throughout the United States and the world. Covers 1966 to date.
    • Simple search: Black students and college
    • Simple Search: Black College and Experience
  • Black Studies Database
    Computerized bibliographic data drawn from the handwritten notes of librarians and other staff of the Schomburg Center from 1948 until 1986.
  • International Index to Black Periodicals Full Text
    Current and retrospective bibliographic citations, abstracts and full text material from over 150 scholarly and popular journals, newspapers and newsletters from the United States, Africa and the Caribbean--and full-text coverage of 31 core Black Studies periodicals (1998 forward).
    Electronic access to a comprehensive archive of articles from journals in the arts, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, ecology and botany.
    • Select “search” at the top of the screen.
    • Then enter:  Howard University
    • Change drop down menu to title
    • Select disciplines: African American Studies, Education, and History.
    • Click on Search Keyword
