A Howard University is a comprehensive, research-oriented historically black, private university providing an exceptional quality of education to students of high academic potential. Over the past 125 years, Howard University has grown to include 17 colleges and schools, 4 institutes and 6 centers. Howard University has produced near half of the black physicians, dentists and other health professionals currently practicing in the United States. The Cancer Center, established in 1972 as a comprehensive center, dedicated to research, education, prevention and treatment to fight against the devastating prevalence of cancers. The seven-story, 66000 square foot building consists of clinics, laboratories, office, a library and classroom with a total extramural funding $7.8 million for 2004. There are 55 faculty members associated with the Cancer center conducting diverse, multidisciplinary research. It has trained many young scientists in basic cancer research. Dr. Adams-Campbell, the Director of Cancer Center, will support this project by providing research facilities and necessary lab space.
