The
Laboratory of Molecular Computations
and Bioinformatics (LMCB) is a resource
facility dedicated to the support
of computational biomedical research
at Howard University. The objective
of the laboratory is to provide molecular
modeling, molecular dynamics, bioinformatics,
and computational quantum chemistry
capabilities and support to a variety
of research projects at Howard University.
The
LMCB will also provide the
necessary resources for ligand
database searching and subsequent
ligand docking in target site(s)
and best fit analyses. The laboratory
makes available to the Howard
University community of scientists
the necessary human, software,
and hardware resources to perform
successful and competitive computational
biomedical research. Additionally,
the LMCB provides its users with
the availability of remote access
to LMCB resources. It also provides
training on the use of modeling/simulation
software for LMCB users. As a
result, state-of-the-art computational
biomedical research resources
is available at Howard University
to support the research needs
of the Howard University community
of scientists as they pursue
gene and protein sequence analyses,
and the design and development
of new and improved therapeutic
agents, biomolecules and biomaterials.
Guidelines for User Access to LMCB
Resources
The Laboratory of Molecular Computations
and Bioinformatics is a research
core. It is for the use of Howard
University scientists whose research
requires its hardware, software,
and/or human resources. Users may
gain access to LMCB resources by
initially contacting any one of the
Unit Coordinators for an initial
discussion of the proposed research
and an orientation to the laboratory
which will determine the level of
support that will be needed from
the laboratory. The nature of their
work will determine which of the
unit coordinators they will need
to work with most closely. Additionally,
the level of user proficiency with
the required software and hardware
will also determine the level of
assistance that will be needed from
laboratory staff.
