Summer 2011 Program
The Summer Program is a rigorous academic enrichment program for promising high school juniors interested in studying and exploring careers in science, engineering, and mathematics. During three to four weeks in the summer before their senior year, participants tackle advanced academic challenges, develop the skills in current technology in science and engineering, improve communication of scientific principles, and create a network of individuals with similar interest. Additionally, the program strives to increase interactions between faculty and students in the aforementioned areas. The Summer Program is focused on increasing the number of minority students who pursue degrees the STEM fields.

Howard University Hosts 30 Future Scientists, Engineers, Mathematicians
At the end of the nearly four-week academically enriched program this summer, 30 high school students are much more knowledgeable in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) due to the annual Howard University Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (HU MSEIP).The program, which is in its second year, is run by mechanical engineering Professor Emmanuel Glakpe, Ph.D., Howard University College of Engineering, Architecture, and Computer Sciences. During HU MSEIP, high school juniors from all across the country are engaged in research activities, field experiments, offered tours of research facilities, participated in symposiums and seminars that expand their knowledge of current technology in science, engineering and communication skills.
